Cemetery

Bourtange has two Jewish cemeteries. The oldest is located next to a plot commonly known as the lime kilns. It is not exactly known when this cemetery was founded. The oldest tomb-stone dates from 1862. Nowadays there are yet nine tomb-stones.

The cemetery was disused in 1984. The other cemetery is located at the hamlet of Hebrecht along the road between Bourtange and Vlagtwedde. This cemetery counts 26 stones, the oldest dates from 1895.
