The cemetery of the Jewish Congregation Delfzijl was located at Farmsum. When it was founded is unknown. In 1680 the first deceased was buried there. But the housing permit of Isac Samuels from 1655 already contained a passage that Jewish people were allowed to bury their deceased on a proper place.
The cemetery was probably founded somewhere between 1655 and 1680. Being the only cemetery for a long time in de Province of Groningen, the deceased from other places were buried here as well. In 1703 the cemetery had become too small and was expanded. In 1755 it was enlarged again.
